We’re taking bookings - Keep Provident sailing!

SAIL WITH US….

Provident continues to amaze us and over the last few months of owning her it has become obvious that she has had so many lives before us.  At least once a week someone gets in touch who has sailed her, worked on her, admired her from a distance or just heard of her and wants to come sailing.

We are now taking bookings for next year and hope to encourage the old fans and to introduce her to the next generation.  Provident is a great boat to sail on. She is stable and comfortable and even when she is going fast her lovely spacious deck means there are lots of places to settle into.

At 90 tonnes she does take a while to pick up speed but with the sail plan right for the conditions she just takes off.

In the wee video clip above, we are making 10 knots -our top speed so far! Graham, Steve’s brother had never sailed before, and he took the helm like a pro!

We have decided to base ourselves in Dunstaffange Marina near Oban.   We will be working there over the winter to refit Provident’s interior and make her more comfortable and warm. We will be putting more seating in the deckhouse, new loos and shower and making sure the cabins have all the electrics you need.

At 98 years old, Provident will need lots of attention over the coming years. By joining a voyage not only will you have a fantastic sailing holiday around the Scottish Islands on an iconic ship, but you will help to ”Keep Provident Sailing” in the years to come.

If you book the whole boat, we will offer you one free space - so eight berths for the price of seven. Be quick though, our weeks are beginning to fill up. Click here for our 2023 voyages.

WORK WITH US…

We will sail with four crew, skipper, first and second mate and cook.    Get in touch if you are interested – we are looking for people with good sailing experience, great at team working and know how to be kind and tolerant of others.  Everyone will need hospitality skills and everyone will have to spend some time in the galley - brush up on your cooking!

Drink tea with us…

Our kettle Is always on for anyone who would like to come and give us a hand at Dunstaffnage.  There are loads of tasks to get involved with… painting, varnishing, technical systems and rig work.  We may even fit in a few preseason sailing trips.  We keep a good stock of caramel wafers too!
