Rather than having a preplanned destination, on this trip we'll check the weather and tides then set off to see what we can find. We can decide how much we want to focus on sailing or exploring on shore or most likely find a great combination of both. The islands and waters of the southern Hebrides
offer almost endless possibilities. We're sure to encounter all kinds of wildlife, culture and the most beautiful isolated spots. It's a great way to enjoy a few days of everything happening nice and slowly.
The Southern Hebrides offer a fantastic variety. Mull for example, one of the largest islands has the colourful little town of Tobermory, sheltered sea lochs, sandy beaches and some pretty substantial hills. The Garvallach islands, tiny and uninhabited with a ruined beehive monastery and incredibly ancient geology. Coll and Tiree to the west of Mull are famed for their amazing beaches with Tiree consistently one of the sunniest places anywhere in the UK. The Treshnish Islands are a haven to huge colonies of puffins and guillemots and a home for a colony of singing seals. On Staffa we could visit Fingal's Cave. Iona is home to ancient Christian culture. Jura, a wild empty wilderness of hills and Lochs and Islay, home to some of our most distinctive whiskies. When we get on board we can check the wind and decide which of these great places to head for first. We'll use the wind and tides to guide us through beautiful and almost deserted seas. We always try to figure out the best way to travel using the smallest possible amount of fuel. So there will be lots of chances to get involved with the lovely process of sailing a beautiful old sailing vessel. Everything happens nice and slowly and the crew will be delighted to help you get involved as much or as little as you like. On shore there will be trails, hills and beaches to wander over. One of our favourite things is to drop a group in one spot and pick them up again somewhere else. Possibly the best thing about a trip like this is its unpredictability. We're sure to encounter dolphins, whales and all kinds of seabirds. We may happen across an island ceilidh or pick up some great local foodie treats. But these treats wont be a matter of planning or itineraries. Its just a case of getting out there and being open to whatever we find.
