Lochs & ISLES ADVENTURE

On this trip we’ll head out from Mallaig harbour to explore the wonderful Small Isles. Each of the four islands has its own unique personalities.

We’ll also explore the beautiful sea lochs Nevis and Hourn. As well as sailing we’ll do lots of exploring on shore. The seas close to Mallaig offer fantastic access to some amazing hills and trails. There are opportunities for every level of explorer. From a gentle stroll along the shores of Loch Coruisk on Skye to a Munroe baggers treat, an ascent of Sgùrr na Ciche at the head of Loch Nevis.

The small fishing town of Mallaig is a great place to start for a sailing and walking adventure.

To the west, the beautiful Small Isles. Eigg with the unmistakable profile of it’s Sgurr dominating the skyline or the dark history of the massacre cave to discover. Rum, the largest but least inhabited small isle offers everything from sandy beeches to rugged mountains.

The south of Skye is a hill walking wonder with soaring peaks or fresh water lochs to explore.

To the north of Mallaig, the magnificent Loch Nevis and Loch Hourn. They’re known locally as the loch of heaven and the loch of hell but both are absolutely magnificent. On Provident we can sail through a series of narrow reaches to the inner parts of these sea lochs. These places of isolated beauty seem like the remotest places we visit. Completely cut off from any signal to the outside world.

One of our favourite things to do here is to drop a walking party at Barrisdale on Loch Hourn. From here a walking group can take a choice of routes across the Knoydart peninsula to Inverie. Meanwhile anyone that prefers sailing can help to sail Provident around to Loch Hourne where we all meet up at the Old Forge, mainland Britain’s remotest pub.
