Spring time can be the best time to go sailing on the west coast of Scotland.

Here’s why…

By late April the clocks have changed,  the days are getting longer and longer, the light is amazing and the wildlife is getting busy.

Spring time sailing in Scotland is a great way to shake off the winter cobwebs and revel in the changing season.

April and May very often have the most sunshine of any month in Scotland and the lowest rainfall.  Weather geeks can find out more from this article by the Met office.  We typically get over 200 hours of sunshine in May, more than any month.

The quality of the light is fantastic too, crisp and beautiful.
Spring is an amazing time to see wildlife.  It’s around this time that tens of thousands of seabirds return from the ocean to nest and rear the next generation.  There’s no need to be an obsessive bird enthusiast to be able to marvel at the sheer scale of the colonies and to delight at how close we can get.

The Island of Lunga to the west of Mull is one of the most amazing bird spotting destinations to be found anywhere.  Thousands of pairs of Puffins return here each spring where they refurbish last years burrows and prepare to raise a new clutch of pufflings.   We can go ashore on Lunga and it’s impossible not to feel happy in the presence of these colourful, multicoloured creatures.

What was your experience of the sailing / activity part of the trip?: Brilliant! Given every opportunity to play a full part in all deck activity - the sailing was epic, the scenery beautiful, the wildlife, particulary the dolphins, immense! A winning combination.

Everyone was really friendly, enthusiastic, keen for us all to learn and very patient! Really enjoyed and appreciated the sessions on navigation etc. The crew were a key part of my overall enjoyment.
